Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sharon Boon, owner of Amber Moon Studio, located in Taylor, Texas, United States.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Amber Moon Studio offers a comprehensive approach to fitness, wellness, and performance through various means - Pilates, Yoga, bodywork, swim/bike/run coaching, wellness coaching, and the list goes on. I've been in this field since 1991 (30+years!), and I still learn. I still am passionate about all I do. Each bit is just one piece of the puzzle that helps more the best YOU forward.

Tell us about yourself

I had always been active - running track & cross country in high school. I answered an ad for someone willing to teach you how to teach group fitness in 1991. And the rest, as they say, is history. I went back to school to finish my BS (physical education) and get my MS (exercise science). In 2008, I got my massage license. I truly LOVE what I do because every day is different. Every client is different. I love the mysteries they bring. I love seeing their progress through all the modalities I offer. I also practice what I tell my clients. It's all about taking care of yourself, adapting, and evolving.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

2019 was my best year ever - financially, client base numbers, loved my schedule, served such a wide variety of people. When COVID hit, I had to flip an entirely in-person studio to online completely. I did it (yes, even massage). I got creative on how to do in-person massage safely (Massage: The Driveway Series). Otherwise, I wouldn't have made it. It's still a struggle, and I'm still evolving the studio, evolving myself during these challenging times.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being able to turn off. To shut the computer day, ignore emails/texts/PM/FB/IG for a day. Some days, you just need that break.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Spend a few years taking work whenever you can get it. Keep your passion alive. Charge what you are worth.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be prepared for change. It's gonna happen. Be prepared to do things that don't work and learn. Be willing to let things go when they no longer serve.
