Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in healthcare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Hyo Joo Yoo, the Chief Executive Officer & Director of Complete Balance Neuro Acupuncture & Rehab, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

CBNAR is a traditional and integrative health clinic existing to fill the gaps in our current healthcare system. We are highly specialized in patients neurological patients such as Stroke, Bell's Palsy, Spinal Cord Injuries, MS, ALS, etc... but the clinic as a whole deal with all internal, psychological, and MSK conditions holistically.

Tell us about yourself

I've always felt called to be a healer since a young age. Having gone through unexplained health crises most of my childhood, I wanted to find ways to bring others out of suffering and control their life. At our clinic, we treat the patient holistically. This means that we target not just the symptoms but also the root cause of the disease and take into factor that the mind, soul, and body influence one another. We provide patients with evidence-based & clinically effective treatments that do not result in side effects, and we also provide lifestyle changes that will help patients to find full control over their life.

Transformation is what motivates me to continue this difficult journey. Seeing patients and their family members find hope and joy again as we walk alongside them and provide ways to come out of suffering is priceless.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our clinic has grown into a team of over 15 since the expansion has taken place. Regardless, we hold onto our values and mission, and all of our team members share in this mission.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Lacking human resources to help us provide all the necessary elements of running a business. Ie. IT, Marketing manager, etc.. Putting money into these areas takes away from placing focus on patient care as we place a higher emphasis on professional development and providing quality medical supplies that are costly.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Know why you are running your business before getting into what and how. Without strong conviction on why you are doing what you are doing. When going gets hard, it is difficult to sustain.
