Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ruth Anne Crowle, Founder of Compass Nutrition, located in Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help ambitious professionals prevent and recover from burnout so they can pursue their audacious goals and enjoy life again. There's nothing worse than having big dreams and goals but not having the energy to pursue them. I know my clients are busy and constantly on the go, so all my services are offered virtually. I support my clients through one-on-one programs, courses, and group programs.

Tell us about yourself

I think the brain, nervous system, and mind-body connection are endlessly fascinating! Learning new information about how we can improve this area of our health motivates me to share it with others. We all have unique gifts and talents to offer our community, but health challenges can be a huge barrier for many. I view my role as someone who can help remove that barrier for people so they can feel more energized to explore these gifts and enjoy life! This is the ultimate motivation for me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Bridging the gap between Mental Health and Nutrition. Nutrition is often overlooked when it comes to mental health treatment, and it is a very powerful tool! This year I also launched a course and group program to reach a wider audience.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Maintaining a positive attitude and growth mindset. This means a commitment to personal growth daily. There is a lot more uncertainty to contend with, but if you can keep a calm mind and positive outlook, that is half the battle.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Adopt a growth mindset — working for a company and running a business are two completely different games with different rules.
  2. Focus on solving problems rather than making a pretty website. This is the primary reason people will come to you and refer you.
  3. Be yourself! You really don't need to be anyone other than yourself. Authenticity builds trust with the clients you are serving.
