Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey by launching a wellness business but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jennifer Costanza, founder and director of the Therapeutic Center for Anxiety and Trauma. Their clinics are located in San Diego and Escondido, California, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a team of clinicians passionate about helping those suffering from trauma and anxiety disorders. We love what we do and can help people of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Whether your trauma is big or small, we can help!

Tell us about yourself

I have been a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2004 and have centered my career in private practice. My passion lies in helping clients and other clinicians, which motivated me to start the Therapeutic Center for Anxiety and Trauma (TCAT) in 2014. When I see clients grow, heal and begin to thrive in their lives, it is incredibly gratifying, and I feel grateful every day for the opportunity, and honor, to be part of their healing process. Now I witness our entire TCAT team helping others in our community. It is a beautiful thing that I feel very proud of.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would have to say it is our success as a team in a highly competitive field. There are a lot of therapists in San Diego county, but at TCAT, we have cultivated a culture that is appreciated by our team, and our clients. The atmosphere is inviting, pleasant and comfortable...and now it has become a sacred place for authenticity, stories, growth, and positive change.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Burnout! I never realized what a real thing that is until owning a business. Avoiding burnout is critical and hard to do as a business owner, especially in the early years. I wear many hats and work long hours. However, as we have become more established, I have been able to gain support that allows me more room to breathe, work on larger projects, overarching company goals, and our culture.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Gain some valuable mentorship early on,
  2. Create a business plan that includes scalable systems and,
  3. Don't allow it to stop you...work the problem!
