Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joanne Lechner, the founder of Batch Food, meal service, in Langley, BC, Canada.

Tell us all about your business...

Our chefs make your favourite comfort foods from scratch using seasonal and local ingredients, to be picked up in store or delivered to your door. Our meals are available in multiple sizes, from individual ready to eat portions to family size serves.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a business owner?

Feeding people has always been my passion, so I get so much joy out of creating the meals. I spent my career being a professional chef and then a pastry chef, after having my kids, I started batch cooking so we always had something homemade to eat that was quick and easy to prepare.

As an entrepreneur, what does success ultimately mean to you?

It’s the great reviews and feedback we get from our customers. It means so much to hear that the food was enjoyed and that we are creating a positive impact in people’s lives.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur?

There are just so many things to always be aware of, from purchasing, sales, bookkeeping, social media, Human Resources, so many hats every single day!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

Be patient with yourself when you make mistakes. Be determined to succeed by being disciplined and consistent every day. It’s all about team work, find the right people support you.
