Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Prakash Mana, CEO of Cloudbrink, located in Sunnyvale, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We cater to enterprises of all sizes, encompassing businesses with global or local operations. Our objective is to replicate the in-office experience for the hybrid workforce, irrespective of their location. We firmly believe that the current and upcoming generations, particularly Gen Z forward, prioritize digital-first environments and deserve workplace flexibility.

We advocate for providing employees with the freedom to work from anywhere, recognizing that creativity thrives when individuals are not confined to traditional office settings. While many enterprises perceive a trade-off between security, user experience, and productivity, our goal is to eliminate this notion. We are committed to delivering a platform that prioritizes both security and user experience, empowering end-users to excel in their roles without compromise.

Tell us about yourself

I pursued my undergraduate studies in India at NIT, Kurukshetra. My fascination with technology and the desire to do more led me to eventually enroll in business school, earning an MBA from Carnegie Mellon. This experience broadened my skill set beyond technical expertise.

Being at Cloudbrink has been a privilege as I am working alongside some of the brightest minds. I cherish the opportunity to learn from the experts every day. Before joining Cloudbrink, I focused on delivering secure connectivity solutions for remote work environments. I was part of an organization renowned for its cutting-edge technology, which provided invaluable insights into what constitutes a best-of-breed platform.

During my tenure there, I was fortunate to be mentored by exceptional leaders who imparted invaluable lessons in business management, leadership effectiveness, and customer-centric approaches. This experience laid the foundation for many of the achievements I've made at Cloudbrink. I previously worked at Pulse Secure and later Citrix, where I engaged in similar endeavors but on a smaller scale.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The essence of what drives me isn't centered on financial metrics or leaving a legacy for the sake of it. It's a deeper conviction rooted in the belief that positive change is not only possible but imperative. It's about rallying individuals around a shared vision and inspiring trust in a mission that aims to make a meaningful difference.

Success or failure in achieving this mission is secondary to the sense of purpose and impact that comes from driving change. The journey itself, filled with challenges and uncertainties, is what fuels the drive to push boundaries and challenge the status quo.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the most challenging aspects of leadership is the constant need to make difficult decisions, particularly when it comes to prioritization. It's about managing risks within the constraints of time, resources, and finances.

In reality, there are often more opportunities and demands than there are resources to fulfill them. This necessitates the practice of ruthless prioritization, where saying no becomes inevitable. Despite the desire to accommodate every request or pursue every idea, the reality is that saying yes to everything can lead to inefficiencies and ultimately hinder the organization's progress.

In essence, the ability to judiciously say no is a hallmark of effective leadership, even if it's often one of the toughest aspects of the role.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

As an entrepreneur, I believe there are three key principles that are crucial for success. Firstly, passion is paramount. Without genuine passion for your idea or venture, it becomes challenging to persevere through the inevitable challenges and setbacks that arise along the journey. Convincing yourself of the value and potential of your idea is the first step towards convincing others.

Secondly, surrounding yourself with talented individuals who not only excel in their respective fields but also share your passion and vision is essential. These individuals bring diverse perspectives and expertise to the table, enriching the collective capabilities of the team. Ensuring alignment in values and enthusiasm for the venture fosters a cohesive and driven team dynamic.

Lastly, seeking guidance and mentorship from experienced individuals who have navigated similar paths is invaluable. Learning from the mistakes and successes of others allows for more informed decision-making and accelerates personal and professional growth. Embracing the opportunity to tackle new challenges and solve new problems adds depth and excitement to the entrepreneurial journey.
