Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julia Hartstein, Owner of Clinging Grace Pilates, located in Charlotte, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am Clinging Grace Pilates. I am a Pilates Instructor and Spiritual Healer. I help those interested in moving forward to Transformation and Healing through Awareness.

Tell us about yourself

Born and raised in Queens, NY, I AM New York. I have a B.A. in Dance and went into Pilates to support myself, so I could dance. I ended up falling in love with the regime! Although, when I first started teaching, I felt like I was a better "healer" than a teacher. Little did I know at the time that I would be doing Healing as part of my work and journey. I feel free and brave when I teach, and I enjoy being able to pass that feeling on to others. Everyone should feel to their core how amazing they are as human beings and as a soul.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

That my clients are consistently happy and healthy! I'm also amazed that I've been able to keep my business afloat after the past few crazy years. I started it in the midst of taking care of my mother with Dementia, then she crossed over, we all got shut down, and I moved out of state. I'm happy to say I'm still doing what I love to do, and it's only getting better!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Staying true to my work as I juggle the "business end." It's a whole new learning curve and can enhance your other talents if you allow it to happen.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Read "The "E" Myth: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It by Michael E. Gerber.
  2. Take care of yourself! There is nothing in this world more important than your health, and your business is nothing without YOU!
  3. Be open and prepared to do things you never planned to do or thought you would never do for your business. It grows and changes just like us!
