Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in nutrition but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lauren Klein, founder of Genesee Nutrition, located in Lakewood, CO.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Genesee has the BEST tasting protein bars on the market!! Our bars not only taste amazing (no chalky or weird aftertaste) but we also use super clean and natural ingredients and contain 20 grams of protein per bar. They're the best on-the-go nutrition to take with you on all of your adventures!
Tell us about yourself
My background is in business and healthcare, but my passions lie within health, wellness, nutrition, and remaining healthy and active. There are so many protein bars on the market but they are full of crappy ingredients, taste terrible, or claim to be protein bars with very small amounts of protein.
I wanted a product that tastes great (because I'm a foodie, especially with sweets), but also had great ingredients that I felt good about putting into my body. With how active I am I also love the extra protein to aid in my muscle recovery. I see so many sports nutrition companies out there that promote very strict lifestyles and I want to spread the message that being healthy and active looks different on everyone and you should be doing activities you LOVE and eating foods you ENJOY!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Personal growth. I've learned so much within these past couple of years with starting and running a business, and my mindset has shifted for the better in so many ways. I've learned how to remain more disciplined and push through the hard times.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The bad days. Every business owner knows at the beginning that there are more bad days than good. We have so many days where sales are slow, or just more roadblocks and bad news comes our way. There are so many times I wanted to give up, but every time I'm about to quit something positive comes along to give me enough hope to keep going.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Have a mentor, chase your passion, and never stop educating yourself.
