Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Claudia Six, PhD, Clinical Sexologist & Relationship Coach, Author, and Speaker, located in San Anselmo, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Clinical Sexologist & Relationship Coach, in other words, a sex therapist. My clients are individuals and couples wanting help with relationship and sexual issues. I've been in practice for over 30 years, am also an author of the book Erotic Integrity, a TEDx speaker on sexual performance anxiety in women, an adjunct professor at USF, frequent contributor to various magazines and radio shows and podcasts. I know my stuff, and I love my work. "Healing the world, one bedroom at a time."

Tell us about yourself

French-born and raised (no accent), it's always been easy for me to talk about sex. It's what I notice in the world. It's part of life, energy, and quality of life. We all think about it, do it, wish we were doing it, and wonder why we're not doing it. My work involves inspiring and witnessing people coming from the best in themselves, rising above their limitations because they want more for themselves. And that is an honor to be a part of.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

30+ years in practice, in a misunderstood field, as a solo entrepreneur. I keep my website informative and ethical, my social media relevant and up to date, and my clinical skills constantly honed and perfected. I've adjusted to changing ways of doing business while clients' issues haven't really changed: everyone wants to be loved, accepted, and received and have a rich relationship and thriving sex life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Constant marketing. In my field, people don't share with their friends that they've seen me. "I was having problems with erections/infidelity/kink/desire...and Dr. SIX helped me". Doesn't happen. Sex is taboo. Also, my business model is not one where clients are required to commit to a specific timeslot each week, ad nauseum. They are a choice from week to week, and I view flexibility as part of the quality of life. I have clear boundaries, nonetheless. So I do need to be constantly generating business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Get a creative logo, a tagline, and a business name that Americans can spell easily. And don't procrastinate! (that's 4)

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It's life-affirming to do work that feeds your soul. It's a gift.
