What's your business, and who are your customers?
MOST is a marketing, advertising, design, and strategy agency for the cannabis industry. Our clients are predominantly in the cannabis industry.
Tell us about yourself
I am a serial entrepreneur. I enjoy creating opportunities for myself and others. I have been in the cannabis industry for 13 years and in transportation for 20 years. Twenty years ago, I founded Diamond Transportation Group, which was a same-day, time-critical delivery service. I found it at my dining room table with four people. I opened up twelve warehouses up and down the east coast and provided trucking, pick-pack-ship, a chain of custody, logistics, supply chain, and a variety of other services to my clients. From my humble beginnings, I grew to 12 locations and became a multi-million dollar company. I have a local, regional, and national presence. I am noted to be a subject matter expert in transportation and logistics. With my expertise in transportation, most recently, I founded Scarlet Express, a state-approved, closed-loop delivery service that provides discreet, secure, and expert cannabis supply chain management in every state.
My son is a famous heady glassblower, and 15 years ago, he told me, "Mom, you have to get into the cannabis space before it blows up." So, 13 years ago, I founded my agency. I guess you can say I'm an OG in the game. What motivates me every day is I love what I do. I get great satisfaction from it, and as an entrepreneur, problem solver, and people person, my business allows me to utilize all of my skills.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is helping to recognize talented people who work with me and helping them achieve their goals. I get a great deal of satisfaction from working with people who want to learn and grow.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is understanding what you don't know. You have to park your ego at the door and listen to those people who surround you because you can't always know everything. You have to be able to surround yourself with people who can give you that knowledge.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know your numbers.
- Surround yourself with people who know more than you do and the things you don't know about.
- Understand that you will not become a millionaire in five minutes. You have to pay your dues.
