What's your organization, and who are your members?
The Latinas On the Verge of Excellence - L.O.V.E. Mentoring Program supports and empowers young Latinas and young women, in general, to strive for success, both in school and in life, through mentorship and health education targeted at mental, reproductive, and physical health as well as college and career readiness.
Tell us about yourself
In the year 2000, I moved to New York City from Cali, Colombia. As an immigrant, I had to work hard to attain my goals because of hurdles such as English as a second language, acculturation, and legal status.
As an immigrant, I know that resilience, determination, commitment, hard work, and self-confidence are crucial to succeed in a foreign country. My personal experience motivates and inspires me to work hard every day to guide and support young Latinas and other young women to reach their full potential-- whatever that may mean for each of them.
What's your biggest accomplishment as an organization?
Building a renowned organization from scratch in the best city in the world: N.Y.C.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being an organization?
Developing an amazing team.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow an organization today?
- Being very clear about the goal of the company or organization.
- Patience, discipline, resilience, and passion are the necessary ingredients to succeed.
- Develop a network of supportive, committed, and smarter people than you to help you achieve your goal.
