Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Monica Ventura, Owner of Class Act Studios, located in Regina, SK, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a dance educator, I provide instruction for children ages two to adults.

Tell us about yourself

I started dancing when I was five years old and started teaching when I was 15 years old. When I was in my late 20s, a Canadian group came to my home country (Brazil), and that was where I met my former employer. Three years later, my husband (who also was a dancer) and I were hired by the previous owner of our business. Seven years later, we bought the business from her, and we have run it now for six years. Dance for me was love at first sight, and my love for dance motivates me to pass it to my dance students.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Was to be able to survive through the pandemic.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Is trying to balance business work with my personal life, especially when I have little kids.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure your finances are enough.
  2. Make sure to find a location that will be suitable for your business.
  3. Have a good support system.
