Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Reethu George, Founder of ClarityBrew, located in Thrissur, Kerala, India.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the Founder of ClarityBrew, a boutique life coaching company. We help women who are feeling stuck and confused about their future find clarity and direction through self-reflection, figuring out what they want their future to look like, setting goals aligned with their vision, creating an action plan, and achieving it.

Tell us about yourself

I am a lawyer by profession. I used to work for one of the Big 4’s doing contracts and negotiation. However, the work never made me feel content like I was making a difference. I always knew in the back of my head that I wanted to work for myself, but I didn’t see myself doing a corporate job in the long term. When COVID hit, and work-from-home began, it really put things in perspective. It took away all the other factors that made work tolerable, and I was stuck sitting in front of a laptop the whole day. I knew then that I couldn’t do this for longer. I was craving fulfilling work that allowed me the flexibility to work on my terms.

So I took the leap and quit my job. It was a little premature, now that I think about it, because I hadn’t yet decided what I wanted to do. I started thinking about what I wanted to do and what skills I have. I came across the concept of coaching when I did my LLM at the University of Queensland in Australia, which was back in 2017. Conflict management coaching was actually a course that I had done during my Masters of Law. Even then, I was fascinated by the concept of coaching, how a seemingly simple yet guided conversation, active listening, and holding a safe space for someone can help someone feeling overwhelmed and lost, shift their perspective and leave feeling relieved and with a sense of direction.

It ticked my check boxes of wanting to work for myself and making a difference in someone’s life. I took one step after another, and ClarityBrew was born. My motivation is simple, the realization that I NEED to show up for myself. This is my dream, and no one else will do the work for me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Going from being an employee to being my own boss was a massive transition for me and a lot of learning. I was never truly confident in myself and my abilities, but being a solopreneur changed this. It pushed me outside my comfort zone and to do many things I never thought I could do. I had to trust myself, learn on the job and be comfortable putting my imperfect self out there.

From drafting contracts, I went to writing content for my website, creating content on personal growth on my Instagram page, editing videos, and joining podcasts as a speaker. I am doing it all and still learning. I have realized that everything that I once thought I couldn’t do were things I never even tried. Unless you trust yourself and give yourself a chance, you never know. I am now unapologetically my own cheerleader.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

While being a business owner gives me the freedom to do things on my terms, it also brings a lot of responsibility. As a solopreneur, I need to wear many hats and manage various areas of my business alone.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First on the list is learning to trust yourself and be your cheerleader.

Next, don’t expect to be the best at what you do from Day 1. Give yourself permission to make mistakes and learn from them. You will get better, eventually.

Finally, patience. Growing a profitable business is a journey. There are going to be ups and downs. Be patient with yourself.
