Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in entertainment but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tina Nicolaidis, Co-Founder of City Dance Corps, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

City Dance Corps is a dance studio, a rehearsal venue, and a community space for dancers and artists to learn, create and share a dance. Our students range from 1 year old to 90 years old.

Tell us about yourself

I began dancing at the age of 3 and always had a passion for it. It wasn't until I graduated from University that, along with my business partners, we decided to turn our passion into a career. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to make your passion live. However, seeing how dance can change people's lives for the better makes it all worth it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Well, surviving 2 years of mandatory shutdowns due to covid-19 is a big accomplishment as a business owner. Our industry saw the longest shutdowns than any industry. Not only did the business suffer, but so did our community, who lost their means of staying healthy in body and mind. It forced us to find creative ways to stay connected to our community, and the support we received from them was amazing and crucial to our survival.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You have to wear many hats as a business owner. From being a digital marketer to a customer service agent to an accountant to an educator/creator... each hat requires a different skill set. Business owners must always stay on top of the trends with each of these roles and continue to educate themselves and progress with the changing times in order to stay relevant, successful, and knowledgeable. That is a challenge but a necessary one to conquer.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never give up.
  2. Never stop growing.
  3. Always be courteous, kind and respectful, and honest in all your dealings with people because relationships are powerful and necessary.
