Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cindy Bain, Founder of Cindy Bain Recharge with Reiki, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Cindy Bain Recharge with Reiki provides Reiki services to those who are courageously and persistently pursuing the best possible version of themselves. I provide a range of services for those in different phases of their healing journey, including individual Reiki sessions, interactive Reiki talks, Reiki teaching, and space clearing.

My typical client will receive an individual Reiki session which focuses on a one-on-one virtual healing session to help clear energetic blocks and reveal the highest possible version of themselves. It is offered to those who are feeling stuck in their personal or professional lives and who feel drawn to the energy of Reiki.

Tell us about yourself

With a career focused on health and wellness, I am dedicated to helping my clients become the best version of themselves and move forward in all aspects of their lives. I began my healthcare career as a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I was part of the Resuscitation Team, stabilizing preterm babies and bringing them into NICU. I also participated in the Transportation Team, returning stable preterm babies to their local hospitals for further care.

I attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, where I received an Honours degree in Psychology and Health. While I attended Queen's University, I worked in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to finance my schooling. Once I graduated, I moved to Toronto, Ontario, and began work at SickKids Hospital. The research I worked on was published in The Journal for Infectious Diseases, and my name was listed on the paper.

My Reiki story began with the birth of my third child. He was six weeks old, and I was run off my feet, caring for his two older siblings, being an office manager for my husband's business, and running the household. Without family or friends to help me, temporary help was hired for a few short months. It was then that Reiki was mentioned, and it caught my attention. I had never heard of it before, but my intuition told me it was necessary. I also knew I had personal healing to do around my father's death as a child. At the time, it felt like synchronicity when I found and trained with a Reiki Master Teacher.

I am trained in three different systems of Reiki, Tibetian/Usui, Karuna®, and Holy Fire®. Being a compassionate wellness provider allows me to create a safe space for my clients to heal and recharge, which is what I'm passionate about. With a balance of scientific and spiritual knowledge, my Reiki practice excels in bringing harmony and healing to my clients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been developing a devoted client base from only word-of-mouth recommendations over 20 years. This showed me how valuable my services were to others because my clients trusted and honored this work and knew that others could benefit as well. Now having launched my website, my fabulous client base continues to grow and heal.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things as a business owner is knowing when to stop working. It's very tempting to use all of your free time to invest in the business and not give yourself a well-earned break.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have support in place, whether emotional, financial, or spiritual, because you will need to lean on that from time to time with the ups and downs of running a business and to avoid burning out.
  2. Be passionate about what you do and choose something you would do in your free time that doesn't feel like work.
  3. Be your genuine, authentic, and true self! People listen without judgment and are open to your messages when you speak your truth with compassion.
