Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christine Fair, Owner of The Ironwood Center, located in Maumee, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Ironwood Center provides outpatient psychotherapy services dedicated to providing quality care and services to children, adolescents, and adults. Our mission is to provide evidence-based treatment proven to bring about a successful outcome. By offering caring, skilled, and thoughtfully planned assistance of sufficient depth and length, we can work together to overcome challenges, solve problems, and achieve balance.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I feel that the biggest accomplishment as a business owner is establishing a great team. Without a great time that has a shared vision, it is difficult to be successful in any business. Finding great people to join your team that have a shared mission and values are core components in accomplishing great things in business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The most difficult thing that comes with being a business owner is continuous assessment and re-evaluation. Being a business owner comes with long hours and needs dedication in order to be successful. At times, it seems that there are not enough hours in the day to complete tasks and evaluate the operational side of the business. However, this can be a pitfall. If you aren't assessing and evaluating the business and moving towards the goals, growth will stagnate or, worse, take a turn for the worst. Avoiding pitfalls and stagnation is necessary for continued growth. Therefore, managing time, delegating tasks and having skilled team members are necessary for keeping the balance.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Three tips: Develop a solid business plan before you do anything. This is very important so that you have a plan to move forward. Without it, you are likely to make very costly mistakes.

Two: Find and work with a mentor. Mentors are wonderful for support and growth. Find yourself a well-seasoned mentor that can help you and your business grow.

Third: Continue to grow as a leader. In order to be successful and stay current, you must continue to grow as a leader. You can't expect to run and grow a business if you aren't growing your skills as well.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Continue to find passion. The Ironwood Center continues to look for ways that we can give back to the community, enliven passion, and offer skills to others. This helps all of us continue to grow.
