What's your business, and who are your customers?
Light the Lamp Physical Therapy is a PT-owned and operated private orthopedic and sports medicine practice that is focused on setting patients up to meet their goals. We offer direct access to specialized care through the evaluation & treatment of sports and musculoskeletal injuries, post-surgical rehab, concussion management, injury prevention screening, and return-to-play testing. Dry needling, kinesiology taping, cupping, and advanced manual therapy techniques are also available. All sessions are 1:1 with Doctors of Physical Therapy.
Tell us about yourself
I have been an orthopedic and sports PT for my entire career, and over time as the profession's climate has changed, I knew that I had to stick with my "why." I became a PT to help people recover from their injuries and/or deficits, which led to the reasoning behind my starting my own practice. That is what continues to motivate me.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The purpose of my business is to help people meet their goals, so my biggest accomplishment is when they do! Their success is mine as well.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I'm not solely providing patient care anymore! I have always been a physical therapist, but now I have multiple roles being a business owner and PT, including marketing, accounting, and numerous others.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't forget your "why."
- There will be ups and downs - hang on!
- Make sure that you have a strong network and resources for support, and if you don't, develop one.
