Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adam Weeks, co-founder of CHOMP, located in Iowa City, IA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We've re-localized food delivery. Technology centralized food delivery operations to a few hubs like San Francisco or Chicago. CHOMP has created a full service food delivery solution for our community here in Iowa. Local residents, and the local workforce have embraced us, and are supporting our efforts to grow in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.

Tell us about yourself

I've worked primarily in sales. Much of my experience came from working for my father who owned and operated successful businesses throughout his career. I later spent time working for Groupon, then OrderUp, before co-founding CHOMP.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Scaling to the huge influx in demand brought on by the pandemic. Then reflecting on that time with great appreciation for our staff, our contractors, our restaurant partners, and of course our loyal customers.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not losing focus of any one part of the business. Finding time to give each segment of the business the attention it demands.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Know your product or service inside and out, believe in your product or service, never stop selling your product or service.

Never pretend that everyone knows who you are.

Understand your competition, be ready to articulate what makes you different.

Anything else you'd like to share?

We started this service to offer an alternative to the national delivery platforms. A service that restaurants can rely on, get in touch with easily. A service that keeps the revenue local, participates in local philanthropy. A service that understands the market, understands the consumers in the market, understands the business landscape in the market.
