Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Viridiana Osio-Servin, Founder and CEO of Chingona Inc., located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Chingona Inc. provides clothing, accessories, graphic design services, and a community of support for Latinas. I aim to draw out the Chingonas (badass women) in every woman.
Tell us about yourself
I am the CEO and graphic designer of Chingona Inc. When I could not find work as a graphic designer, I worked in customer service to pay the bills. I also started creating designs as a hobby, and in my search for a "chingona" sticker, I realized the lack of Latina designs I wanted to buy, so I started creating my own. Bringing representation to all Latinas but in particular immigrant and first-gen Latinas.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is bootstrapping myself and doing this alone without help. It's hard as hell, but it's all worth it.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As business owners, we put so much pressure on ourselves because no one else will. It can be very lonely if you don't surround yourself with like-minded people who will motivate and inspire you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a story behind your product and why. Your unique story will be your selling point.
- Ask your customers if they would buy your product first. Is this something your customers want?
- Get comfortable with talking about your business, especially on camera.
