Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Daniel Jens, Co-Founder of Child Care Biz Help, located in St. Petersburg, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Child Care Biz Help is the childcare industry's premier consulting firm, offering customized, holistic solutions to help its partners run a more successful business. Our mission is to pioneer new childcare brands for start-ups, level up existing home and group childcare centers, and develop creative resources for the early childhood education industry.

Tell us about yourself

My wife, Caroline Jens, and I started this business as a childcare business blog back in 2016. As our reach grew, so did the requests for consulting from childcare owners and directors. My role has been to increase our online visibility and work on OUR business, as my wife helps our client's businesses. While it is exciting to hear from our clients on how grateful they are to us for helping them with either their existing center or start-up, my favorite thing about running a business with my wife is when she tells me, "I'm getting inundated with lots of new leads, whatever you're doing keep it up!"

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My wife left the corporate world to start our business in 2016. That was big for us. I worked part-time on our business and also held a great full-time sales job that could afford us to take the leap and maintain our lifestyle. But today, I recently went "all in," Now we are both 100% working for ourselves and supporting our family with the business we created.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It is very challenging to work with your spouse, and I don't recommend it to everyone. You have to work at it daily, sometimes hourly, even minute by minute, but the reward far outweighs it all.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life.
  2. Start while still employed (at least one of you, if married).
  3. Find out who is the best in your industry, learn from them, and then do it better!
