Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cheryl Polote Williamson, Transformational Speaker, and Certified Success Coach, based in Dallas, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have dedicated my career to helping women shift their mindset to walk boldly in pursuit of a life of power and purpose. I do this through film, television, books, speaking, mindset coaching, and as the publisher of Cheryl Magazine. My core audience is women in their 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's who are ready to make a shift to start believing and walking toward a life of purpose and realized dreams.

Tell us about yourself

Years ago, when I was going through a shift in life, I realized that the lessons and blessings during my walk toward purpose would be significant and vital in helping other women create a space for themselves to dream, believe and excel in their purpose too. Through speaking, mindset coaching, the books I write, and the events and films I produce, I am able to help others make a shift while empowering them to walk toward their dream. I am motivated daily by an understanding that my work and mission are tied to other women's destinies and purposes.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've had many victories in business that I am proud of, but my biggest accomplishment is staying true to my purpose walk and a mission driven by faith. Staying true has gotten me in rooms I never even knew existed. It's garnered me such awards as the Maura Service Award in Dallas, the Presidential Service Award from President Joseph R. Biden, and the Topaz Award from the Women in Film and Television (WIFTA).

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The biggest thing business owners might find hard is managing their mindset. You have to train yourself and train your mind to work in favor of your dreams, goals, and plans. Things will get hard; sales may not come every day, and you might also find yourself wondering if starting this business was the right idea. It was. If you're following your purpose, you're never on the wrong path. To overcome fear and strongholds, you have to focus on what you think, speak, and believe. If you aren't in control of your mindset, you can never fully activate your power as a business owner. Be mindful always of what you're saying to yourself, and always focus on speaking words of power.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Surround yourself with visionaries and dreamers. You will never have to sell them on your dream or vision because they're already on that level with you. That will keep you motivated and inspired.
  2. Realize that your mindset is your superpower. Whatever you tell yourself will manifest in your life.
  3. Make sure you set goals each and every week for yourself so that you know you're on the right path. After you set those goals, don't allow people to talk you out of them. Don't allow people to bring you into what they're doing in their business. Focus on what you're supposed to be doing so you can run, grow and scale your business.
