Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Diana Arango, co-founder and CEO of Chefpost, located in Hollywood, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Chefpost, we make people’s lives easier and better by facilitating chefs who can cook in your home's comfort anytime you need it. We've got you from your meals for the week to special dinner menus. Like most of you, people don’t have the time or the energy to cook every day. We all want fresh, real, personalized meals with that homemade quality without cooking them ourselves.

At Chefpost, you can find the best local chefs in just one place and book with ease anytime you need it. You can personalize menus or experiences based on your dietary restrictions and food preferences—all in a few clicks.

We are making having a vetted more accessible than ever. With the Chefpost website and app, you just have to book, relax and enjoy. Because we believe everybody deserves a better quality of life and enjoy what matters the most.

Tell us about yourself

I am a mom of 2 boys and a serial entrepreneur. What we call these days a "mompreneur." It was precisely this role of a working mom that inspired me to start Chefpost. After rushing home from work with no time to cook and struggling between spending time with my family or cooking, I realized that there was not a place, like "an uber for chefs" where I could just book a chef whenever I need it to cook the meals for my family and me.

The solution didn't exist, so my entrepreneurial spirit couldn't help it. We created this solution for me and many other people who don't have the time to cook every day of the week but still want high-quality homemade food for themselves and their families.

Besides helping families have a less burn-out life, I am genuinely motivated by our community of chefs. Making their lives better by finding a flexible enough job to work on their terms and helping them succeed doing what they love is the best part of my job.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is helping others through a business that I am so passionate about. Chefpost is more than a marketplace; we make people's lives better, changing lifestyles, helping people have healthy habits, and improving relationships. When I hear our customer's and chefs' stories, I not only feel proud but responsible for continuing on our mission to make people's life's better. We are just getting started.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is the level of responsibility that a business owner carries to make the business successful and not disappoint all the shareholders who rely on you. So many people count on you, your customers, your team, the investors, and everyone who trusts you to be the best person who can take the business to the next level. That includes building the right team, which sometimes includes firing people who do not deliver to your business expectations. Firing is the toughest part for me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your homework, research, and learn everything that is to learn about the industry you are getting yourself into. Prepare, do a business plan and start. Never stop learning.
  2. Know your ideal customer as much as possible. How they live, what problem you are trying to solve, why they need your product, and how you can solve their problem differently from anyone else. Never stop learning about them, and hear their feedback always.
  3. When you start, in the beginning, try to be as hands-on as possible. That means doing some leg work in the operations; when you know the nitty-gritty, you will know how to strategize and make your business better.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Take care of yourself. There is so much required from a business owner, so don't forget to invest in your health and mindset. You need to be in the right space to deliver and take a break when you need it. Enjoy the ride!
