Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food service but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mondrekio Robertson, Owner and CEO of Chef Hollywood’s Culinary Creations, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a personal chef service. My clients are all people who want to experience a real chef in a personalized way. I make every event different and really just for the client, and I like to use their ideas and make a cohesive event.

Tell us about yourself

I started cooking very young, and after going to college for computer science, I realized I should go for it professionally. My environment inspires me, I love to travel and learn about new cultures, and I take my experiences and really cool from a place of love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say still having a business and clients is my biggest accomplishment so far. Making it through Covid was really hard, but pivoting to online classes and podcasting really helped me out. Bouncing back from that with great clients is what I’m most proud of.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think the hardest thing is that you have to turn off work mode. Sometimes I just constantly work, and I have to make myself stop. Being passionate about my business is a plus, but it makes it hard not to give 150% every day at all times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just start. Get all of your ideas written down and research how to start what you want to do.
  2. Do not get discouraged by people not supporting you. Lots of times, strangers will support you before the people you know.
  3. Love what you do and make sure you make decisions for yourself and your business, not for others.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

One of my favorite things I’ve done in the past couple of years is starting a podcast, “Cooking Your Way Through Life,” so follow for fun stories and recipes.
