What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a personal chef and provide weekly meal preparation to clients in and surrounding the Baltimore area. I also do private in-home multi-course dinners.

Tell us about yourself

I fell in love with the culinary world at a young age. I first started in catering at 14, and I remember watching the chefs dance through the kitchen in this orchestrated fashion. It clicked immediately, and I knew that was my path. After many years of restaurant work, I decided to branch out and start my own business as a personal chef. It was the best career decision! I get to do what I love every day and provide a service that helps others!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was achieving a full book of clients and then a growing waiting list!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a solo business owner is the "business" part. I would much rather be in the kitchen creating a new recipe than at the computer, BUT when you are a solo entrepreneur, you need to wear all hats!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If inspiration is knocking, then answer the door! Don't wait!
  2. Hone your craft and keep learning new skills!
  3. Hire an accountant. Don't try to handle the books yourself!
