Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mindfulness, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mahara Wayman of Mindfulness With Mahara, based in Beaumont, Alberta, Canada.

What's your business and who are your customers?

I am a motivational speaker, author and empowerment coach. I help professional women harness their voice, declare their worth and flourish in their careers.

To that end, I have created a group online coaching program called the Phoenix Empowerment Program. My premium flagship 3-month program has weekly modules, including a workbook, guided meditation, journal prompts, and twice-weekly group coaching over Zoom.

Tell us about yourself

I am proof that it is possible to be successful in your career but unhappy.

After years in the health and wellness industry, supporting others in transforming their lives, I realized that I was missing something. Despite being intelligent, creative and dedicated to my job, I was unhappy and not making the impact I wanted.

I decided to take control of my life, rewrite my story from the inside out, and start my business, Mindfulness With Mahara. Now I use my knowledge together with powerful techniques to help female professionals find happiness in their careers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I consider that my biggest accomplishment is when I see a client's face light up with understanding after experiencing an "ah-ha" moment. As a business owner and coach, nothing feels as good as knowing I made a difference in my client's life.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things for me is finding that balance between work and family, especially as I work from home.

My business is new and small, so I only answer to myself, which is terrific, but I get called on throughout the day by my dogs or family, and it can be tough to please them all. I can't tell you how many zoom sessions I have been running while trying to keep my dogs quiet at my feet!

What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1. Know your ideal client inside and out, their pain and their dream.

2. Create messaging that speaks directly to them and shows you understand their pain and have a solution to their problem.

3. Start every interaction with, "How can I help you?" then listen well and offer a solution instead of selling them something.
