Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laura Weiner-Kiser, Health & Life Coach at Change By Challenge, located in Clearwater, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is called Change By Challenge because if it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you. Probably not a big surprise, but what we do is change work. I work as a behavior change specialist targeting stress to work through our lack of confidence, emotional eating, and mindset.

My customers are typically businesswomen or working moms who are burned out and exhausted, never making time for themselves, and I give them the tools to change that.

Tell us about yourself

I started as a personal trainer after struggling with weight and breaking nine bones. I knew I'd need to understand how to keep my body healthy. But what really drove me was how much I like helping people. I didn't want them to struggle as I did. I then became a nutrition specialist and finally a coach. Each step of my journey has helped me understand how to have a deeper impact on my clients by working with their mindset. Knowing that my clients don't have to suffer but that I can help them reshape their neurochemistry to work for them and deliver their desired results that are the most rewarding thing I can dream of.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My success stories. I've had clients lose 40 lbs. and keep it off for years. I've had clients get promoted, and I've had clients learn to please themselves and become the authority in their own life. I've had countless clients break their addiction to stress and reclaim their happiness. Sure, there are conferences and awards, but is there anything more amazing than changing someone's life?

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Balance. I started my business to help people. Turns out I'm also an accountant, marketer, project manager, website designer, and more.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Figure out how YOU need to function within your business to be ok if it fails. I know that's weird, but if we don't know what is and what isn't ok within ourselves, we won't be able to courageously guide our business.
  2. Anticipate the challenges and figure out how you want to face them. I believe if it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you. And if you're starting a business, you will need to change to some degree and face the challenges in a way you can be proud of. Figure out what energy needs to guide you (courage, truth, vulnerability), and then you'll always know what to call on when a challenge arises.
  3. Don't try and do it all at once. First, that's impossible. Second, you'll just burn yourself out and miss out on the journey.
