Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chad Bratt, General Manager of Jagged Mountain Craft Brewery, located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We operate two businesses here in Downtown Denver, Colorado. Jagged Mountain Craft Brewery was established in 2013 and serves a wide variety of craft beer brewed right on-site! In 2023 we expanded our business and launched our own coffee brand, Slackline Coffee, serving coffee and breakfast in our already existing taproom. We see a wide variety of customers, from local residents to visiting tourists!

Tell us about yourself

I got into the craft beer industry well over a decade ago by organizing and hosting craft beer-focused festivals and events around the country. In 2013 I left the festival and events side to help build Jagged Mountain Craft Brewery into a successful business and brand. The ever-changing landscape and creativity of craft beer keep me going every day. I am also very fortunate to have an amazing team at Jagged that continues to keep our taproom friendly and welcoming!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

In 2023 I was elected to the Colorado Brewers Guild Board of Directors by industry peers. Having the opportunity to promote, protect and propel the Colorado brewing industry is a huge honor.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Time management. It's important to dedicate time to your business, growth, staff, etc.....but finding time for yourself can be challenging. Finding a balance between work and life is incredibly important!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take care of your staff - Listen to their input, get them involved in decisions, and activate their potential!
  2. Stay involved in your neighborhood and community organizations - Attend your neighborhood meetings, keep your block clean, and put in the effort that you expect to see in your community.
  3. Collaborate! - don't ignore the competition down the street....collaborate with them, promote each other, and grow.
