Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Candia Raquel, founder of Centro De Poder, located in Mexico City, Mexico.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help workaholics to become sensually confident by moving with Postural Presence® to overcome numbness and embrace pleasure.

Tell us about yourself

I took pride in enduring rather than delighting. That happens when you work 80 hrs a week and don't allow yourself more than three free days off in a row for decades. "Strive until a bone breaks" was my motto—until it happened. Missteped out of exhaustion and fell down the stairs. Low back cracked like celery. Pain puts me down every time I try to get up. Until I discovered a pleasurable posture from where I could move. This was years ago, but I'll still have low back pain for weeks if I sit numbed in front of the computer or if the tension of orgasm goes the wrong way. Pleasure became a moment-to-moment practice for me. It was not easy because pleasure has become a product in our society that you have to earn and deserve. I think this is wrong. Pleasure is your birthright. Pleasure is how health feels like. So I'm on a mission to help people claim their connection to sensual pleasure through Postural Presence®.

For Candia Raquel, movement technologies are dynamic convergence of the art of sensitivity and the science of anatomy. Her classes are creative and tend to the essence of the self. She accompanies her students in the process of deliberately inhabiting themselves through the pleasure that arises by simply breathing while moving. With the aim of achieving the most optimal neuromuscular reorganization to be sensually expressed through Postural Presence®.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Consistency. You need to put in the work everyday.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Uncertainty vs. Creativity. You'll never know when the market conditions are going to change. Reframe uncertainty as the arena where you´re creativity expresses.
  2. Loneliness vs. Community. You're alone in your decisions. Your defeats and victories are yours. But make sure to be part of a community of business owners that go through what you're going through.
  3. Operation vs. PLEASURE. It's hard not to get consumed with the operation while you get enough money to delegate. You'll be wearing all hats, attending board meetings, and even cleaning the toilets. But always, always, always protect the time to do what brings you the most pleasure—that'll be the light that keeps you going!
