What's your business, and who are your customers?
Center of Training (LLC). I teach corporate wellness via online and in-person training classes covering mental health topics. The customers are corporations and organizations of all sizes and types. I also teach continuing education classes to counselors/therapists.
Tell us about yourself
I founded and built a business teaching First Responders about mental health and ran it for five years until I recently sold that business. My new business is corporate wellness, doing the same thing but with corporate leaders and employees rather than First Responders.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've done hundreds of suicide interventions, helping First Responders with the trauma and harsh experiences that they go through.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Doing everything myself, just because I can, when I really should be hiring/finding people who can do elements of the business better than I can. I need to learn to delegate and trust other people with some of the details of my business instead of taking on everything and burning myself out.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Genuinely know your business audience and gear your product or programs to fit what they actually need, rather than what you may just like to sell them.
- Be patient. Growing a reputation takes time, and so does earning trust.
- Constantly assess to see what's working and what isn't, and be willing to make changes as you go.
