What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Center of Gravity Pilates. My customers are honestly moms who want their lives back! I do have men's classes, but they are rare, unfortunately, since Joe Pilates was a man!
Tell us about yourself
I am a dancer who had a hard time in institutional academic settings. A dancer that didn't care about performing as much as sharing dance with the community, and Pilates gives me that opportunity to share with anyone and everyone.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The accomplishment I admire now is that I survived a pandemic and not only survived but met like-minded customers that bonded deeply in hard times. I also learned the hard lessons of accepting folks for who and what they believed at that time and going forward.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It is hard to lose good teachers. They take a long time to create, and then they often leave. I am struggling to offer enough incentives to keep them around.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Talk to the other owners of the exact same industry as you, gather information from your colleagues to research before you commit to starting your business, and try to see possible downsides before you begin your new business.
