What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Celly Hockey Co. which provides vintage-inspired apparel to hockey enthusiasts.
Tell us about yourself
Hockey has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up in New Hampshire with six siblings who all played hockey. While growing up, I absolutely loved the vintage snapbacks and crewneck sweatshirts I would find in my dad's closet. I thought it would be really cool to create new and unique products that provided that throwback look and feel. I'm motivated each day because I absolutely love what I do. I feel very fortunate to be able to run my own business in an industry that I love and care so much about.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner and what's been the most rewarding has been seeing hockey players and fans truly appreciate and want to wear the designs that I have created. Growing up, I always drew hockey jerseys and logos for fun, and it feels surreal that people now wear designs that I've come up with.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
For me, the hardest thing that comes with being a business owner has been to take time to relax away from the business. I love working on my business, but I know the importance of turning my brain off from it at night or on the weekends. I find it very hard to step away since I always want to be checking in on everything.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Follow what you are passionate about because it will never feel like work.
- Try different approaches! You never know when your next product/idea could be the one that pops off.
- Enjoy the journey of starting and growing the business instead of focusing on the destination.
