Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in CBD, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrew Moniz, founder and CDO of  Modern Love Organics, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a premium CBD brand that aims to help people destroy their anxiety, stress, and pain with the best possible CBD products available. We source all our products from the best producers in America and sell the most bioactive and fastest-acting CBD products available. We want our customers to feel the love in a new way, and Good quality CBD will help. With so many terrible CBD brands out there, we want to sell a product that works. Our customers enjoy a great product, not just a good one but a great one that might change their lives. We have customers from all over the US, and we also sell our tinctures in third-wave coffee shops in Los Angels and some high-end boutique hotels in Chicago, NY, and LA.

Tell us about yourself

I first started working in CBD when I realized how hard it was for my team and myself to find a good CBD product that works. My business partner Rock Baijnauth & I are both filmmakers, and we were both burning the candles at both ends with our documentary and commercial projects when we discovered the benefits of CBD. It was a godsend for us as it helped us sleep better and managed our anxiety issues in a way other methods had failed. The problem was that it was so hard to find good CBD, you know, stuff that worked! We eventually found a few brands and also discovered our love for CBD lattes. The perfect way to take our morning dose. One day we just decided that we had to source this stuff in bulk for our family and friends and help them out. Suddenly, Modern Love was born.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment is the fact that we are helping people. We are selling love in a bottle, a modern way to love yourself. There is no better satisfaction than to know you are helping people with your product.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is that this is a new industry, and we had to jump a lot of hoops to become a CBD brand even though it's entirely legal in the US. Banks, marketing outlets, and even educating our customer base are all things that are hard because everything is still so new.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top 3 tips are:

  1. Be ok with failure and keep moving forward.
  2. Treat your customers better than you would ever treat anyone.
  3. Hang in there. Rome wasn't built in a day. Be confident in where and why you started your business and keep at it.
