Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Catherine Wilson, Holistic Health Practitioner/Spiritual Coach/Writer/Designer/YouTuber/Podcaster, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a holistic health practitioner and life and mindfulness coach. I help others with their life purpose and meditation practice and for those who are spiritually awakening. I also help vegans with their diet and offer a unique service called IBS-vegan.

Tell us about yourself

I started my journey in psychology back in the '90s after a traumatic childhood. Because of health issues (Hashimoto's, IBS, and a rare congenital condition called tuberous breasts), I changed my life: I went vegan, studied naturopathy and Chinese medicine, and got into personal training. I began my website catsrawpaw.com back in 2013 (under another name initially) to share my foraging adventures and vegan recipes. Then it came to share my expertise and knowledge in health and well-being, so I began writing health articles and started a podcast. Now, I make videos on YouTube and do a daily vlog on my Instagram.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Showing up every day as myself is all that matters. You want to enjoy your life, do what you love, don't you? When you consider that 75% of people hate their jobs (strong word there), do you want to be one of those people? If you are, then maybe making it your goal to make this world a better place is really the true calling of your heart.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Trying to find the time to do it all, BUT making sure that I want to do it. One of my secrets is this: if you catch yourself complaining (which the ego loves to do), then it means you need to re-evaluate or re-haul the system. So, if I am complaining about the 101 things that I need to do that day, then I need to re-align myself with what is in my heart, whether that means hiring someone to help me, doing tasks on another day, decreasing my workload, or doing something else to change the energy and then come back to the tasks needed to be done that day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. There's a new vibe happening; it's called conscious marketing. People are tired of the same-old, same-old marketing funnels. Mindfulness isn't just about a formal activity; it's about how you show up in the world. And that includes your business and your marketing strategy.
  2. With AI becoming more rampant, those in mindfulness and spirituality will become more sought after. You can't market "spiritual awakening," and you'll be hard-pressed to find a human opening up to a robot that has been programmed to "know" about it.
  3. Do it because you want to. There are pros and cons to everything. But the reality is that there are two fixed points in your life: birth and death. The first already happened, and now the second is coming closer every day, no matter whether you are stressed or loving it. So wouldn't you rather love it? Life is simple. The mind loves drama. Choose consciously. Choose wisely. Because it's your life, and only you are responsible for it.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I started vlogging every single day. It doesn't matter if 1000 or 0 people watched. It's about being devoted to myself. It's about my own inner commitment. It's about taking 5-10 minutes every single day, no matter what is happening (short of a wi-fi connection), to share my energy and show up with whatever is going on. Be committed to being yourself authentically.
