Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Catherine Morgan, Founder of Point A to Point B Transitions Inc., located in Chicago, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The company provides a career transition strategy, coaching, and accountability, helping clients determine their right next step and accomplish their goals. We work with driven professionals out of professional services, financial services, and technology.

Tell us about yourself

I started helping people with career transition and job search informally more than 20 years ago. While working with a coach at my last corporate job, he suggested I consider taking this experience and turning it into a business, which had never occurred to me. What gets me out of bed in the morning is helping people to see possibilities, especially when they think there aren't any. Frequently, I work with people who have been laid off, had a bad business breakup, or have spent extended time in transition. They likely also have some personal situations concurrently, including divorce, death in the family, or health diagnosis. They may feel like they are "spinning" and can't see a way forward. I help them see possibilities, taking into account all the different things going on in their life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Staying in business for more than 12 years and through 2020-2021. I also wrote a book that will be published in the fall titled "This Isn't Working! Evolving the Way We Work to Decrease Stress, Anxiety, and Depression." www.ThisIsntWorkingBook.com.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Keeping myself accountable. It's easy to let my own action items and deadlines slide. I actively manage against this.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Surround yourself with other people who are building businesses because your friends and family might not get it.
  2. Know there will be big highs and big lows. You WILL fail sometimes. Expect it.
  3. The "hustle culture" may hustle you. Rest and white space are critical for creative thinking, innovation, and productivity.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you share your personal and professional struggles with the right inner circle of fellow entrepreneurs, you will be surprised by the gratitude, respect, and support you receive from them. I promise.
