Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Attias, Founder of CaterZen Catering Software, located in  Nashville, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We help successful caterers become more successful with our catering software operating system.

Tell us about yourself

I started off in the restaurant business as a dishwasher at 16. In college, I identified a need for catering software to help operators increase sales and save time. Twenty years later, after selling my restaurant, I built the company.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a company our clients love, and that runs without me having to work day-to-day.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There is no plan b. When things go wrong, it falls on your shoulders to figure it out.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Is there a market for what you want to do, wanting and willing to pay for it?
  2. Does it involve residual income? There's nothing harder than having to start each new month a zero sales.
  3. Can you systemize it so it is not reliant on you to do a job?

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Enjoy the journey. I am less focused on goals than the general direction of my company. Enjoy each day, as tomorrow is never promised.
