What's your business, and who are your customers?
Carrell Farms, Inc. is dedicated to providing its family and friends with honest, nutrient-dense food. We are not afraid to venture outside of the commodity structure of agriculture to produce a product free of antibiotics, drugs, and GMOs.
Unique Meats Raised Right means our livestock live a species-appropriate lifestyle, eat a species-appropriate diet, and are humanely harvested. Carrell Farms holistically manages its water buffalos, alpacas, and sheep on a continuous forage chain of warm and cool-season grasses, legumes, and forbs. When dictated by the seasons or weather, grazing is supplemented with grass and/or legume hay. We never feed grain or GMOs.
When ready for harvest, we haul our livestock to a USDA plant in South Carolina, where the owner sits on the advisory board of Animal Welfare Approved. He and his staff share our concerns that our stock is always handled calmly and respectfully. Carrell Farms welcomes you into our circle of Friends Feeding Friends.
Tell us about yourself
Both my husband, David, and I grew up raising animals for 4H and FFA projects at school. We both got a degree in Agricultural Economics at the University of Georgia. We are motivated to continue farming in a regenerative program because we see the perils of modern commodity agriculture and how it has contributed to widespread illness and obesity in our nation's population.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being successful while also being independent from government subsidies is a big accomplishment, in our opinion. When customers report to us that their health has drastically improved because they switched over to eating our grass-fed meats is also a tremendous accomplishment!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For us, it has been burdensome government regulations.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Love what you do! Without the passion for it, you will burn out quickly when things are challenging.
- Establish relationships with other people in your industry.
- Outsource professional services such as accounting and legal that help keep your business healthy.
