Nutrition That Works - Carolina Functional Nutrition

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rhya Pachin, Founder of Caroline Functional Nutrition, located in Charlotte, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hi! I'm Rhya, and I am the founder and lead dietitian at Carolina Functional Nutrition. My purpose in life is to help people identify and address the root cause(s) of digestive and hormonal imbalances rather than just manage or mask symptoms.

Tell us about yourself

From my own personal health journey with Hashimoto's and my children's digestive issues and food allergies, I developed a passion for nutrition with a functional medicine approach because I wasn't getting answers from traditional doctors. I know what it's like not to feel heard and to struggle unnecessarily with the only options being offered - lifelong prescription medication or surgery. I love helping others find answers to nagging or mysterious symptoms and empowering people to resolve digestive and hormonal imbalances to experience optimal wellness.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have been fortunate to work with several practices and have received various recognition in my local community. However, I am most honored to have been trusted by thousands of clients to be a part of their health journey in finding answers and resolving chronic symptoms. That's it. That's why I show up daily, which is the best reward.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Maybe like most business owners, I started my business around my skills, not because I love running a business! I don't feel especially skilled at social media, and I hate making financial decisions. I love talking to people and helping them find answers to their health questions, so I have learned to lean on support staff where I can focus more on what I do best.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make a basic plan to cover expenses and just go.
  2. Find people who can help you with things you don't know how or don't want to do.
  3. Bring the best service and a genuinely caring attitude
