Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sue Reynolds, Founder of Carmine Media, located in New Vienna, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work with small businesses and non-profits so they can succeed using social media marketing and with women to reach their leadership potential through one-on-one coaching and leadership training.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business in 2010 as a way to teach myself the social media marketing and blogging skills I needed for my corporate social media management position. I learned WordPress, SEO blogging, and social marketing for brands. From there, I started to notice women coming to me for advice, and a few TikTok videos around empowering women in business really took off. I went back to school to obtain a certificate in Executive Coaching, and now offer coaching, classes, and leadership training seminars to women seeking to increase their confidence and communication skills.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe my most important accomplishment has been working with women to improve their leadership abilities. We need more women in leadership.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is the fear of losing relevance. I work very hard to stay on top of social media and leadership trends by reading and studying consistently. I consume a lot of social media content and use data to inform future decisions.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start small, but start.
  2. Test. Your audience will tell you what works. Give them more of what works and less of what doesn't.
  3. Slow and steady wins the race. If you are offering a quality product or service, the word will spread, and you will grow. Grow slowly so you can scale your time, automate some of your processes and focus on what matters.
