What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Holistic Mood Repair Expert and Functional Nutritionist, and founder of the Private Facebook™ Group: The Liberated Life: From Pharma to Freedom™ where I help high-functioning women get off the merry-go-round of antidepressants without withdrawals using a proven drug-free path to healing that restores the brain, body, and being into beautiful balance.

Tell us about yourself

When I was completing my master's degree, a close family member's dependence on those uber-dependence-forming pharmaceuticals was tearing my family apart. Although he'd had a med school education, his life wasn't going anywhere, and he was simply stuck in a standstill of suffering. Not only had he been tormented by Cymbalta and pummeled by a Klonopin tolerance, but he was also burdened by a 16-year off-and-on opiate addiction as a result of trying to find relief from his emotional pain and mental distress. It was utterly heartbreaking to witness, and I so desperately wanted to help. For a long time, my family and I had no idea what to do. We scoured the internet. We joined Facebook groups. We tried supplements we thought might rebalance his brain chemistry and ease his pain and suffering. He'd tried rehab; he tried Iboga ceremonies in Costa Rica, he tried Ayahuasca ceremonies in Peru. Nothing was working. As someone who had dedicated my life to health and wellness long ago, I decided that I was going to figure out how to help my brother get healthy, and it didn't matter how long it took me or what I had to do. I decided that I would figure out how to help him overcome the pain driving his dependence on the drugs without going through horrific withdrawals. And that's when I started the journey that got me to where I am today, here with you, sharing my methodology with my clients so that they can skip over the years of trial and error and the struggle that we went through so they can finally feel safe and powerful within their own mind, body, and souls.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been working in the niche of helping humans get to the root cause of depression, anxiety, and insomnia and get off the merry-go-round of mood-altering meds. Or avoid them to begin with. This work holds a special place in my heart because of what my family went through. There is nothing better than watching my clients rewrite their story and their future. If you can do work that rewards you, that's the best because it doesn't feel like work.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Well, when you're starting, you are basically doing everything yourself. You've got to learn all the new systems that our techy world offers, which is both daunting and exciting. Each time I conquer a new task that I never thought I'd be able to, it's like getting to a new level in a video game. (And my point of reference for video games is playing Super Mario Bros, circa 1991.)

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Narrow your niche and hone your craft. In such a competitive world with so much on offer, you need to be speaking to one person about what you're offering. As they say, if you're speaking to everyone, you're speaking to no one. And remember that doesn't mean you won't attract a variety of people that allow you to shine in all the places you want to shine.
  2. Get help. There are so many online programs on how to grow and market your business today. There is no way I would be where I am today without investing in business coaching and mentoring.
  3. Definitely don't give up when the hard times hit. Because they will. And that just means that you're about to uplevel again, that the sweetness is just on the other side of that challenge.
