Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joshua Ogundu, CEO of Campfire, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Campfire is an app that lives in the intersection of photo sharing and social audio. We give everyone the power to be storytellers by simply uploading a photo and talking about it. This can give more context behind something you saw or tell a story about a thing you want people to know about. Our customers are millennials and Gen X.

Tell us about yourself

What got me started on this was from my type working at TikTok on the global product operations team, observing the greater landscape of startups in consumer social such as Dispo, LockerRoom (now Spotify Live), Clubhouse... it was a time when people thought consumer social was solved and as we can see it's not been. What motivates me every day is building something that people get value from.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building a consumer social app with high retention.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balancing between being patient and quick-acting, Because there are times you need to be patient and times you need to move quickly, and depending on the scenario, that can be tough to find or know which one you should do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Ask for help often.
  2. Prior work experience is helpful in pretty much every aspect of building a venture-backed startup.
  3. Perception matters.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Make sure to work on being as decisive as possible when dealing with products, processes, or people.
