Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrew Sarda, Founder of Campfare, located in Mill Valley, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Campfare sells ready-to-eat gourmet camping meals in retort pouches, perfect for camping adventures, meals at home in a pinch, and disaster preparedness.

Tell us about yourself

I am a chef and outdoors enthusiast, so Campfare was a natural fit for me as a start-up. I am motivated by making things better and achieving goals using creativity.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say raising the funding it has taken to get this far, or more importantly, creating Campfare from a mere idea and then having it sell around the country.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

In the beginning stages of your business, it is likely just you on your own (solo, hah), having to do every task yourself. This isn't always a big deal, but at times, invariably, it is kind of a big deal with so many tedious and granular aspects which go along with the undertaking of having your own business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Pick a product with a clear differentiation; you don't want to be a start-up that seems like a lot of other companies' products are already out there. Be very frugal and respect the value of a dollar. Raise the money you need and raise it all at once based on a sound enterprising budget.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It is very cool to make a product and have people using it and enjoying it. You gain feedback, and utilizing that early feedback to improve and adapt is key.
