Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Raja Sampathi, founder of Calmcorporate, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help people and organizations have deeper connections with themselves & better relationships with those close to them. I believe with the loneliness epidemic and the great resignation coming out of the pandemic, it has become paramount to seek a sense of belonging, whether it is from within or from people around us. And I'm here to serve and enable this connection.

Tell us about yourself

I was a management consultant for over 15 years and started my spiritual journey in 2019 and fell deep into the rabbit hole. With many people spiraling down during the pandemic, I found myself living an incredibly balanced life thanks to my mindfulness practices. It was then that I found my calling to help others do the same. I'm motivated by the fact that I will leave the world a better place than I came into it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Inspiring people to live a more present life. Mindful living is not all about meditation. Knowing that through my videos, classes, or articles, someone is having a fantastic date with their partner, a joyous time with their kids, or a little less stressed with their work - all these are my biggest accomplishments.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding the courage and conviction daily to keep going. I will admit that there definitely have been times when I have wanted to go back to my cushy corporate job. But then I get reminded of my greater purpose to engender change in the world in my own way, and I'm back at it again!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do it. Start now. Stop thinking, pull the trigger. It is the most rewarding thing you will ever do in your life.
  2. Keep a cushion of at least months in terms of rent and your monthly expenses.
  3. Have fun. Things will be hard. No path to greatness is easy, but enjoy the process & the journey.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be kind to yourself and others. Spread cheer and joy. If you can help someone, however small it may be, do it. Live a life of gratitude.
