Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shanie B. Gamache, owner of Café Tuyo, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a zero waste vegan coffee shop in the Plateau Mont-Royal in Montreal. We work hard to cook delicious homemade meals and are specialized in vegan baking. Our clientele can range from locals and tourists to professionals and students that are aware of the impact a vegan diet can have on their health and the environment.

Tell us about yourself

I’ve been vegan for ten years now and was always very sensitive to animal welfare causes. I learned about veganism when I was 17 and never looked back. I think the best way to educate about veganism is through food. I love making delicious food that people enjoy, whether vegan or not.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being my own boss. Seeing my business grow and clients coming back!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The amount of stress and always being available in case of emergency. It’s really like having a baby.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Have passion and a lot of it! You need to be hardworking; there’s no way around it!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Have fun. Having a business will teach you more than you can think. Your business will grow as much as you and your team will!
