What's your business, and who are your customers?
I provide Mental Health Therapy and Well-being Coaching services. My services support people from various backgrounds and cultures. The majority of my clients are working professionals who struggle to find balance in life which impacts their mental health and well-being.
Tell us about yourself
I started my business as a means to control my direction in life and to have a sense of independence. I have a very independent spirit, and the idea of someone else deciding what I do makes me uncomfortable. I have a vision for the services I provide and who I am, and my business helps me to live out my vision.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is persevering. Half of the businesses fail within the first 5 years. C&C Counseling and Coaching (under the name C&C Educational Counseling and Consulting) has been in business for the last 14 years. It has evolved as my vision evolved.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
With independence comes great responsibility. I am responsible for everything in my small business. There is no one to blame for mistakes. There is no one to lean on when things are not going well.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Plan but be flexible.
- Have a good marketing plan.
- It is not going to be easy, so build your resilience.
