Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Samantha Davidoff, Co-Founder of C.B. Dough, located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

When we created this brand, we wanted to do something that hadn't been done before. My sister and I grew up loving food but desserts in particular. We would always have our parents buy cookie dough or cake mix at the store so we could bake it at home and enjoy a delicious warm out of the oven dessert, and it was a fun activity also! We kept that in mind when creating C.B.Dough and aimed to create an elevated, modern-day version of what we experienced growing up baking desserts at home. As CBD has been a very trendy item over the last few years, I wanted to incorporate that into our products as it adds an even more comforting element to the already comforting dessert. We wanted to cater to a wide range of people and provide a product and experience that makes you feel good and ultimately sweetens your self-care routine! Our customers vary, but the majority of our customers fall into the 20-35 age range. We hope to get our products into as many households as possible so that everyone can end their day with a C.B.Dough dessert!

Tell us about yourself

My sister, Maddy, and I had wanted to go into business together for a while. We had been brainstorming ideas about what would make sense for us to do since we were coming from different industries. Maddy had worked as a chef for several years. She had been most recently working in the baking industry at the corporate level. In contrast, I mainly did social media and marketing in the fashion industry. After several brainstorms, we finally came up with the idea of ready-to-bake cookie dough with a twist, the CBD. Once C.B.Dough was born, we began giving samples to people in the community to try it out before officially selling it, and the response we got was amazing. There were so many people that just loved the products and truly became loyal customers ever since, and that motivates us to keep going and keep spreading the cookies :)

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the tangible things we've created that I personally love and believe to be great, such as our brand logo and name and our products and packaging. It all comes together as a whole to equal C.B.Dough, and I am proud of the brand we have created.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things, especially as a small business, is probably just lacking the manpower to get things done quickly and easily. We have to be very resourceful and learn how to do a lot of things on our own because we don't have a team of people behind us.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are passionate about and invested in the product and the brand you are creating.
  2. Have a plan of action, including how you are going to reach your audience and what your goals are.
  3. Don't take rejection as a sign to give up; take it as a push in a different direction.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We find a warm chocolate chip cookie or brownie, with the added benefits of CBD, to be the perfect ending to a long day. We think everyone deserves to treat themselves and that self-care is essential for our mental health, so we hope people will try the products and add them to their routine!
