Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joel Guera, Owner of Buzu Trading Cards, located in San Antonio, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Buzu Trading Cards combine art education, gaming, and behavior management in ways that are both innovative and exciting. Our customers are students, teachers, and parents.

Tell us about yourself

I first began creating Buzu Trading Cards as an art lesson while still student teaching. Gradually, over a few years, the art lesson evolved into an art contest, fundraiser, game, behavior management system, and so much more! I am motivated by the reactions and results I get from teachers, students, and parents regarding the value these products offer. I enjoy applying the best of myself for the betterment of students and teachers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, my biggest accomplishment has been seeing how Buzu Trading Cards have benefitted educational communities.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is finding a balance between your business and your personal life. Sleep, exercise, and quality time with family are just as important (more so) than all of the responsibilities that come with being a business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Hustle - do everything you can, whenever you can, to push your business further.
  2. Research - know your market, customers, and product inside and out.
  3. Find a mentor - finding someone who is knowledgeable can help save you time and money.
