Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Peyton Daprizio,  Owner of Butter and Baked, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own and operate a cottage-licensed Las Vegas local bakery called Butter and Baked. We specialize in fresh baked larger-than-life cookies that are both buttery and gooey. We aim to use quality ingredients in our cookies while creating fresh and unique flavors.

Our cookies range from classic to specialty in order to satisfy each customer. All of our cookies are made for sharing. So call a friend or a family member, and cherish a moment together while sharing a cookie!

Tell us about yourself

I love a decadent, indulgent dessert just as much as anyone, maybe even more! That is when I started creating my own recipes that fit my want and need for the perfect treat. Having my own small bakery that specializes in cookies has been a dream and motivates me each day to share our cookies within the community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

When I first started Butter and Baked, I was unsure if people would actually enjoy my cookies. I had put my heart and soul into each cookie, so starting my business was scary. After selling a few boxes and hearing customers rave about our cookies, I realized that the risk had paid off.

Since starting Butter and Baked, we have had multiple sellouts, which is always special. The biggest accomplishment for me personally has been able to meet and create friendships with our customers. We have been lucky enough to be their dessert of choice for special events in their life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is being able to balance the business and personal life. Owning a small business comes with sacrifices, and therefore, managing time has been my biggest hurdle. The saying "I traded in my 9-5 to work 24/7" resonates with me, but it has been entirely worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It's cliche, but the first is to find something you truly love to do. Having a passion within your business creates a level of fulfillment that is unmatched.
  2. Create a business plan. Having a business plan and creating goals is great for sparking motivation to get started and persevering.
  3. Create a good support system. While that may not always be friends or family, there are plenty of other small businesses that will share their experiences. There will be a time that you'll need help within your journey of entrepreneurship, do not be afraid to ask for help!
