Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Elizabeth Stacy, Founder of Busted Stub, located in Wilmington, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a small photo retouching studio focused on working with clients to create the type of imagery they envision. I work with many companies and photographers in imagery ranging from architectural interiors to skincare products.

Tell us about yourself

I went to college thinking I wanted to be a photographer, but while there, I discovered I loved the post-production work instead. So, I immediately switched all my photography classes to post-production-related classes. With luck, while still in college, I landed my first job in the field as a lead retoucher and fine art printer at a small local business. It was then that I realized I really loved helping people make their visions come to fruition. It made me happy to see them excited about the end product.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Entrepreneurship is something I never thought could happen. In the beginning, I worked as a freelance retoucher and had a full-time job, so to actually have my own retouching business is an immense accomplishment for me.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Having to be everyone in a company at once. It is difficult managing multiple projects/jobs, freelance retouchers, financials, retouching myself, etc. It's not always easy being one person wearing many hats in a day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Work with people that make you feel good about your job.
  2. Find the balance between work and personal life. The business will be there tomorrow; take the time you need for yourself, friends, and family.
  3. Try and try again. Never give up on your idea, even as it changes and shifts through the years.
