Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with GianPaul Delle Donne, the founder of Spark Leadership, business coaching in Canada.

Tell us all about your business...

Spark Leadership specializes in Business coaching, Career coaching and Leadership Training. I work with small and medium-sized business owners and entrepreneurs to help them discover untapped potential in themselves and their businesses! I push them to think outside the box, and encourage them to challenge themselves beyond their comfort zones because in discomfort and unfamiliarity we find growth.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a business owner?

I am a pretty simple down to earth person that all in all loves the ability to help others. I like to consider myself constantly curious and continuously wanting to learn.

After having owned and operated a couple of successful landscaping companies, over the past 11 years, my attention started to look more to the future and where I saw my career going longer term. I knew I had always loved the ability to work with entrepreneurs, hear about their journeys and found comfort in wanting to return to one of my core attributes of helping people.

People can learn from the mistakes I made on my own journey to business ownership and take advantage of some of the things I figured out along the way that separated myself from others. Coaching and Leadership training seemed like a natural fit and I could not be happier to now be working with entrepreneurs and guiding them on their own journeys.

As an entrepreneur, what does success ultimately mean to you?

My biggest accomplishment as an owner probably came when I was awarded the Entrepreneur of the year award for my region which is always great in terms of business accomplishments but if I look at personal accomplishments I would have to say my biggest accomplishment would be having been able to create a life for myself that is fulfilling work wise and that allows me to spend time with those that are closest to me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur?

I believe balance between work and personal life has always been a tough thing as most business owners are aware of and I think too being able to stay motivated during times of difficulty of high stress. It's easy to pack it in and say this isn't for me, but extremely hard to push through adversity when things aren't going your way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

1. No matter where you are at in your entrepreneurship journey, take time for yourself and take time for others.

2. When adversity or an issue presents itself or you can foresee it coming, get ahead of it and be proactive.

3. Be kind, be open and accept people for who they are. Business becomes a lot easier for those who can accept people from all walks of life.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I'll leave you with a quote from Steve Jobs "The ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do"
