Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kayla Feagin, Founder of BusiLife Enterprises Ltd., located in Columbus, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have a business planning company that helps early-stage entrepreneurs create a simple business plan for early success. My customers are people with a business idea or people who are within their first 0-3 years of business. These people may be seeking funding presently or in the future.

Tell us about yourself

Growing up, my grandfather was my silent mentor. I watched everything he did and wanted to become an entrepreneur and work when I wanted to so I could spend time with my family just like him. I have learned about myself that I am a very curious and creative person, which led me to entrepreneurship, finding different ways to make money in business. My grandfather taught me everything he knew about finance which led to me starting a financial coaching business.

While the business helped many people, I soon realized people want help with finding new sources of income more than they want help with a budget. I began assisting clients in brainstorming business ideas and actionable business plans to get started. This later turned into the establishment of BusiLife Enterprises. A company that considers the busy CEO's lifestyle to create a plan for business success.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is overcoming my shyness and becoming an outspoken person. Overcoming my personal obstacles has allowed me to win public speaking competitions, host workshops, and teach virtually. I now show up confidently to encourage other business owners to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Staying positive. During the journey of entrepreneurship, you will experience high highs and low lows. One week can be the greatest week you've ever had, and the next week can be the worst ever. As an entrepreneur, it's important to our mental health, stress levels, and the business that you keep the faith and stay positive. Allowing yourself to be overcome with negative thoughts, feelings, and expectations is a sure way to fail in your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure your business idea has market demand. When creating your business product or service, keep the customer at the forefront of your mind, focusing on solving the problem they have with your business offering.
  2. Don't go in with high expectations. When starting a new business, there is a lot of excitement and high expectations for the massive support, huge profits, and freedom from traditional employment. In mostly all cases, this process may take 2-5 years to reach these goals. Take your time and enjoy every step along the way.
  3. Never give up, ever. Sometimes in business, we may need to pivot our plans and make changes to our business model. Sometimes we may feel the urge to give up and quit. Before quitting, think about pivoting your business, changing something about your business to make it work better.
  4. Create a simple 1-Page Business Plan to get started.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Every business owner needs a business plan as the foundation of business operations. A plan establishes the purpose and the direction the business operates in moving forward. Without a plan, your business will exist aimlessly, hitting no target goals at all. To create a 1-Page Business Plan, visit our website!
